... were held at the Royal Albert Hall for the first time in 1941, after the Queen's Hall was bombed. In 1944, as the threat of bombing increased, they moved to the Bedford Corn Exchange (in Bedford), which had replaced the Queen's Hall as the home of the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 1941. The Proms returned to the Albert Hall in 1946, and have been held there ever since.
